Lampsakos (BC 500-450) EL 1/6 Stater (or Tetrobol?)

ca 500-450 BC. EL Hekte (or AR Tetrobol?) (2.31g, 10mm). Forepart of Pegasos right / Quadripartite incuse square. VF. Carr coll.

Very rare and catalogued as pale electrum giving the appearance of being a silver coin. There is some substantial debate surrounding these issues. While a rare coin, there are examples of both the left and right facing Pegasos types in what is both clearly EL and what appears to be solely silver. Would the ancients accept a coin that did not have a strong yellowish tint as true EL? The original description by J.P. Six as EL is followed by CNG (see CNG 94, lot 459) and Roma (this coin). The weight is consistent with a Hekte.
