Dorylaion (BC 3rd-2nd cent) AE 111007 views3rd-2nd century BC. AE11 (1.54g). Helmeted head of Athena right / ΔΟΡΙ(?), owl standing right, head facing, spearhead to right. Good style, dark green patina, VF/gVF. Very rare. Gutknecht coll.

The assignment at 'Dorylaion' goes back to Imhoof Blumer. H. von Aulock, Phrygien II, 63 puts the coin without explanation after Hierapolis. Bloesch, Winterthur notes a handwritten note by Imhoof Blumer that remarks of Phrygian Dorieion, which has no known coinage (neither the Winterthurer nor the available piece show a "Y" at the end of the legend, actually also "I" is possible).
