Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #8376

Kyme (BC 350-320) Didrachm

ca 350-320 BC. AR Didrachm (5.45g, 7h). Eagle with closed wings standing right, head turned to left / […], forepart of horse right. Extremely rare. Considerable traces of corrosion, otherwise very fine.

Acquired from Spink´s in April 1970. This is one of the very few known examples of the late 4th century didrachm coinage of Kyme. One example signed by a different magistrate is in the BM and one was sold by NFA in 1976, which may well have been struck from the same dies as the present piece but is so corroded that it is impossible to be sure.
