Ilion (AD 180-192) AE 38 - Commodus

Commodus, 180-192 AD. AE38 (2.89g). Ilium. AV KAI M AVPH KOMMOΔOC, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / ΙΛΙΕΩΝ in exergue, Ganymede, wearing Phrygian helmet, seated left on pile of rocks, giving cup to eagle who grasps it with his left claw and drinks from it; tree behind. Good VF, dark green patina with light earthen encrustation around the devices, some corrosion. From the David Simpson Collection. Ex Bank Leu Auk. 30 (4/1982), lot 395.
