Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #1332

Xanthos (BC 360) Diobol - Maussollos?

after 360 BC. AR Diobol (1.60g). Head of lion right / 8-rayed star; Lycian letters 'ARN' (Arnna = Xanthos) between. VF. Unique?

The lion/star motif is usually representative of the Carian Hekatomnid Dynasty. However, the Lycian letters identifying Xanthos is a mystery. The coin may have been struck following the fall of Perikle in the failed Revolt of the Satraps (361 BC), when Lycia lost its independence and Maussolos may have inherited jurisdiction over it.
