Pessinos (BC 100-0) AE 25

Mid 1st century BC. AE25.5 (18.69g, 12h). Jugate draped busts right of Attis, wearing Phrygian cap, and Kybele Agditis, wearing turreted crown / Lion seated left, right paw placed on tympanon; caps of the Dioskouroi flanking, uncertain object to right. Fine, dark green patina, some earthen encrustation. Very rare.

Pessinos was the capital of the Tolistobogii, a Gallic tribe that had settled in the area. The city was best known for its temple of Kybele, who was known locally as Agditis.
