Tarsos (AD 238-244) AE 33 - Gordian III

Gordian III, 238-244 AD. AE33 (21.52g). AVT KM ANT ΓOPΔIANOC CEB , draped, cuirassed, radiate bust right, in field Π-Π / TAPCOV M - HTPOΠOL, in left field M/K, in right field A/B/Γ, Mithras in short military cloak and waving chlamys, as sun-god with radiate crown, kneeling with left knee on back of a bull, pulling with left hand its head backwards and holding in raised right hand the sacrificing knife. Very rare, F/F+. Hoeft coll.

The rev. depicts the so-called tauroctony, standing in the center of the Mithraism.
