2nd-1st century BC. AE15 (1.98g). Laureate head of Apollo right / KAYCTP[I]ANΩN, lion-skin draped over club. Very rare, about VF, nice light-green patina. Hoeft coll.
The Kaystrianoi (Caystriani), the people of the plain of the Lower Kayster (HN). The river Kayster, today Karasu, has been celebrated by the ancient poets as the favorite residence of the swans. Ephesos was located on the mouth of the Kayster. The plains were first mentioned by Homer, Ilias 2.461. The coins were struck probably in Hypaipa (HN).
