Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #7889

Uncertain (AD 69-81) AE 18 - Domitian

Domitian, as Caesar, 69-81 AD. AE18 (4.36g, 7h). M. Hirrius Fronto Neratius Pansa, legatus Augusti. Struck 77/8-79/80 AD. Laureate head right / [ЄΠI]/ ΠANCA/ ΠPЄBЄYTOY in three lines. VF, brown patina, areas of flat strike, die break on reverse. Apparently unique. Ex Wagner Coll.

A logical guess for the place of minting would be Caesarea, the principal mint in the region, where similar coins carrying this legend were struck under Titus. The authors of RPC reject this attribution, however, based on the absence of a date and the metal composition.
