Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #8610

Phokaia (AD 147-175) AE 36 - Faustina Junior

Faustina Junior, Augusta, 147-175 AD. AE36 - Medallion (30.02g, 12h). Attalos, magistrate. ΦAVCTINA CEBACTH, draped bust left / ATTAΛOC ΦΩKAIEVCIN ANEΘHKE, Faustina standing facing, head turned right, holding child, other children standing at feet. Near VF, dark brown patina. Remnants of solder, or more likely, silvering on reverse. Extremely rare and of fine style.

A highly interesting medallion, from the same series as RPC temp. no. 3310. The reverse legend records that Attalos issued the medallions at his own expense.
