Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #3331

Miletos (BC 259-246) Drachm

ca 259-246 BC. AR Drachm (19mm, 5.33g). Laureate head of Apollo left / Lion standing left, looking back; monogram before, star above; ΒΙΩΝ (magistrate) in exergue. Good VF, even grey tone.

Stylistically, this drachm of Miletos seems to fall into Deppert-Lippitiz's period IV that was issued circa 259-246, but Deppert-Lippitz does not record any coins for this magistrate at this time. There are, however, several issues with the name ΒΙΩΝ throughout the remainder of the 3rd century and early part of the 2nd century BC.
