Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #5930

Apameia (AD 200-300) AE 19

Quasi-autonomous, 3rd century AD. AE19 (3.29g). ΔH-MOC, bearded, draped, laureate(?) bust of Demos right / AΠA-MEΩ-N, nude Marsyas advancing right, nebris flowing behind, playing double flute. VF. Hoeft coll.

Marsyas playing the auloi, the typical double-flute. But actually the auloi was not a simple flute but a tongued instrument so more like an oboe. Both parts often were tuned in the distance of an octave but that could be changed. Here you can clearly see the grip holes.
