Dionysopolis (AD 221) AE 28 - Annia Faustina
|
Annia Faustina, Augusta, 221 AD. AE28 (10.71g, 5h). Draped bust right, wearing stephane / Demeter, veiled, standing facing, holding two torches; to left, Telesphorus standing facing; countermark: monogram within circular incuse. Fair, earthen green patina.
Von Aulock only knew of one example for this type, and of only five coins for Annia Faustina from this mint. This coin appears to be the second known and the only in private hands. The monogram on the countermark can be expanded to TO PKA (= year 121, equivalent to AD 243/4). Howgego records that the countermark appears on issues of Laodicea for Julia Domna, Caracalla, Elagabalus, and Severus Alexander as Caesar.
