Gordian III, 238-244 AD. AE20 (3.30g, 8h). AVT K M ANT ΓOPΔIANOC AVΓ, laureate and draped bust of Gordian right / AΛIKAPNACCЄΩN HPOΔOTOC, bearded and draped bust of Herodotos right. Extremely Rare. VF.

This coin celebrates the greatest citizen of Halikarnassos, Herodotos, who lived there in the mid-late 5th century BC. He was a great historian and for that time a 'journalist' who would travel around the Mediterranean to 'investigate' and interview people who actually had witnessed the events he wrote about.
