Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #8325

Uncertain Satrap (BC 4th cent) Satrap - Obol

4th century BC. AR Obol (0.79g, 10mm, 8h). Draped bust, wearing satrapal headdress, facing slightly left; star to left / Crowned and draped female bust left. EF, toned, obverse struck off center. Very rare.

The proposed attribution of this type to Evagoras II, originally made in the 19th century, is likely incorrect (cf. SNG Kayhan 1066 for a similar obol historically attributed to Evagoras). Interestingly, although Gökturk 88 retains the attribution to Evagoras II, Gökturk 52, another obol certainly related to this type, is placed at an uncertain mint in Cilicia.
