Uncertain (AD 14) AE 25 - Augustus

Divus Augustus, died 14 AD. AE25 (10.20g, 12h). Bare head right / Î˜EON AYTOKP A [TOPA], capricorn right, holding globe, bearing cornucopia on back. VF, black-green patina. Ex Villemur Coll.; ex Freeman & Sear 3 (12/1996), lot 724 .

While Grant in Essays Mattingly posited a mint in Cilicia for this coinâ€™s origin, his hypothesis is far from conclusive. The similarity between this coin and RPC 5448 suggests they are part of the same issue, possibly struck shortly after the accession of Tiberius to the throne and the deification of Augustus, as evidenced by the legend, Î˜EON AYTOKP A [TOPA].
