Komana (AD 193-211) AE 30 - Septimius Severus
|
Septimius Severus, 193-211 AD. AE30 (14.76g, 12h). Dated CY 162 (195/6 AD). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Nike, holding palm frond and wreath, standing right atop column; all within tetrastyle temple with Ionic columns and patera in pediment; ЄT BOP (date) in exergue. Near VF, brown surfaces, scratches before bust. Brace coll.
An interesting type. The “column†within the temple may in fact be a baetyl. The British Museum catalog describes the female figure surmounting it as “Nike or the goddess Enyo.â€
