Uncertain (BC 440-390) Star - Hemiobol 2
|
5th century BC. AR Hemiobol (7mm, 0.40g). Head right, with short hair, wearing Corinthian helmet / Star of eight long rays in incuse square. VF, minor porosity. Extremely rare.
In the Gorny sale, the head on the obverse is identified as Athena, but the clearly short hair makes such a determination unlikely. Nevertheless, the style and fabric of this coin suggests a mint in northwest Asia Minor, perhaps Ionia.
