Tenedos (BC 188-70) Tetradrachm

ca 80-70 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.76g, 1h). Janiform head composed of laureate and bearded head of Zeus to left and diademed head of Hera to right / Double axe, TENEΔIΩN above, monogram and bunch of grapes to left, open hand to right; all within laurel wreath. Rare. Nicely toned. Nearly extremely fine. Ex Bement Coll., Naville VII (6/1924), 1408 (provenance given in Bement catalogue, Hirsch XXXIII, 823, is incorrect = de Callataÿ 14). According to de Callataÿ, only 119 tetradrachms and drachms of Tenedos are known.
