Alexandria ad Issum was founded by Alexander in 333 BC, about 35 km south of the Issos battlefield, to guard the Syrian gates (a mountain pass connecting the cilician coast with inland Syria) while he was advancing to Egypt. The small city issued few coins, some under Antiochos IV and some in imperial times, all of which are rare today.
