Germanikopolis (AD 198-217) AE 18 - Caracalla

Caracalla, 198-217 AD. AE18 (3.50g, 6h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Eagle flying right, grasping rabbit(?) with its talons; rabbit is standing right on a rocky outcropping. Fine, dark green to black patina with earthen highlights/deposits. Very rare, Bricault & Delrieux cite only two examples, with one in the Hermitage, and the other in a private collection (ex Schulten [4/1988], lot 566.
