Kyzikos (AD 268-270) AE 33 - Claudius II Gothicus
|
Claudius II, Gothicus, 268-270 AD. AE33 (23.30g, 5h). Laureate bust right / Preparations for an evening event in the theatre or amphitheatre - slaves are erecting and lighting giant palm-torches, which are held in urn-like containers.
An extremely rare and interesting reverse type, known for Severus Alexander (BMC 264), Faustina II (Berlin) and Caracalla (Mionnet). though not until now for Gothicus.
