Mytilene (BC 412-378) EL Hekte - B68

ca 412-378 BC. EL Hekte (2.53g, 4h). Head of Artemis-Kybele right, hair in sakkos / Head of female left, hair in sakkos, lamp at forehead; all in linear square within shallow incuse square. Good VF, a little die rust. Extremely rare, only 6 examples known to Bodenstedt.

Of the six coins listed by Bodenstedt, four are in museums (Karlsruhe, Boston, ANS, and s’Gravenhage). Only one other has appeared at auction recently: CNG 57 (4/2001), lot 478.
