Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #8308

Ionia Uncertain (BC 550-500) Bull - EL 1/6 Stater

ca 500 BC. EL Hekte - 1/6 Stater (2.33g, 9mm). Milesian standard. Figural type. Head of bull right / Quadripartite incuse square. Near EF, toned. Rare. Ex Triton XI (1/2008), lot 250.

The Rosen catalog notes that the entry for the Vourla hoard in IGCH designates Samos as the mint of these coins, but J.P. Barron disagrees. Von Aulock placed the coin at an uncertain mint in Ionia, while Rosen was more general, at an uncertain mint in Asia Minor.
