Nikopolis (AD 161-180) AE 22 - Marcus Aurelius

Marcus Aurelius, 161-180 AD. AE22 (8.15g, 12h). Dated CY 91 (162/3 AD). Laureate head right / Zeus seated left, holding Nike and scepter. Good Fine, brown surfaces. Very rare.

This issue is often given to Nicopolis-Emmaus in Judaea. RPC Online (temp. no. 6367) assigns the type to Nicopolis ad Lycum and notes that von Aulock acquired his specimen in the vicinity of the ancient town.
