Neoklaudiopolis (AD 211) AE 21 - Geta

Geta, 211 AD. AE21 (5.11g, 6h). Bust right / "Apocalyptic" Aphrodite loosening her garment provocatively and holding out an apple.

All the coins of this city are very rare, and this reverse type seems to be unrecorded for Neoklaudiopolis. Also interesting is the (unexplained?) legend-ending KOM KECAP, which can also be found on coins of Tavion in Galatia.

This coin is cited as no. 37b in Julie Dalaison's work on the coinage of Neoclaudiopolis. Two further examples, 37c and 37d are on wildwinds. Julie suggests that the KOM refers to Commodus as Geta's uncle, but on Forvm it has been suggested that it is an abbreviation meaning "elevated to Caesar".
