Very rare and interesting mythological representation. Dark, olive patina.
Athena was believed to have invented the aulos (double pipe). Hera and Aphrodite laughed when Athena played her pipes because her puffed cheeks distorted her face. Suspicious Athena decided to see for herself by observing her reflection in a river as she played. Upon seeing the unflattering result, she discarded the pipes, which were then picked up by Marsyas; Marsyas later challenged Apollo to a contest, matching his pipes with Apollo's lyre. Apollo won and flayed Marsyas as his punishment.

The coin is a testimony for the mutual recognition and respect between the Jewish community and the city of Apameia Kibotos, which integrated the Jewish myth of Noah's ark into her own traditions: Noah got ashore with his 'Kibotos' ('chest') at Apameia; the Jewish people of Apameia were descendants of Noah.

Although perhaps originally conceived as cthonic goddess similar to Artemis, in Greek mythology Hekate was transformed into a nefarious deity associated with witches, ghosts, and curses. The origin of her cult can perhaps be traced to Caria, where her most prominent cult site of Lagina was located and where names stemming from Hekate (itself apparently derived from Hekatos, or “far-shootingâ€, an epithet of Apollo) are well–attested. From at least the Classical period she was shown in triplicate form as a goddess of the crossroads, comparable to the Roman Trivia, whose image was set up at boundaries to keep out evil spirits.

Marsyas playing the auloi, the typical double-flute. But actually the auloi was not a simple flute but a tongued instrument so more like an oboe. Both parts often were tuned in the distance of an octave but that could be changed. Here you can clearly see the grip holes.
