Good VF, red and brown patina with green overtones. Very rare.
In Treasures of Ancient Coinage: From the Private Collections of ANS Members, Catharine Lorber catalogued a coin of Maximinus I Thrax from Anchialus in Thrace with a very similar reverse type (see p. 121, no. 110). Lorber summarized the type as "...a symbolic map of the cosmos. Zeus, chief of the gods, is the central figure... Surrounding this scene is a broad band containing the twelve signs of the zodiac. The entire design reflects the common belief of 3rd century Romans that their lives were shaped by higher powers. This schema and variations on it were employed by numerous mints for different emperors from the mid-2nd through the mid-3rd centuries."

Mytilene (AD 138-192) AE 27 - Lesbonax815 viewsLesbonax, period of the Antonines, 138-192 AD. AE27 (7.72g). ΛЄCBΩNAΞ HPOC NЄΩC, male bust right, beardless, wearing wreath of ivy-leaves and berries (Lesbonax in the character of Dionysos) / MVTIΛH NAIΩN, Lesbonax standing right wearing tainia, holding long staff and simpulum (?). Otherwise apparently unpublished and unique. Minor adjustment marks, good very fine.
This coin depicting Lesbonax is one of a series honoring noteworthy citizens. Lesbonax known from only a few preserved rhetorical and philosophical works was also depicted with beard thus as a proper philosopher (SNG von Aulock 1751). Deified as “the New Hero†Lesbonax obviously had to be equaled to the gods by depicting him as Dionysos. “Der kleine Pauly†lists three separate people who were called Lesbonax while others rather keep it by one or two. Other portraits honoring distinguished local citizens are known of Julia Procula, Flavia Nicomachis, Sextus Nicomachus, Theophanes, Archedamis, Nausikaa and Sappho. Except Sappho most of these citizens are more or less obscure historical figures.

(BC 400-350) Uncertain Satrap - Tetartemorion800 viewsEarly-mid 4th cenutry BC. AR Tetartemorion(?) (6mm, 0.21g). Mylasa mint(?). Head of the Persian Great King left / Stellate pattern of Milesian style. Unpublished in the standard references. VF, porous. Extremely rare.
It is unlikely that this coin was part of a Persian-related issue at Miletos. In the early 4th century, however, the Milesian stellate pattern reverse was revived in the fractional coinage of the Hekatomnid satraps of Caria that were struck at Mylasa. These coins used the Milesian weight standard, which is likely the reason for their revival of that particular stellate type. There are a variety of issues from Caria during the Persian period that used Persian iconography, so it is likely that this coin belongs among these issues, and perhaps was struck under the Hekatomnids at Mylasa.
