On almost all other examples that have come to auction, or appear in standard references, the wing of the Pegasos is not on the flan, giving the appearance of simply the head of a horse.

The Roman coinage of Attaleia is difficult to assign to specific reigns because the coins do not carry identifying inscriptions until the reign of Trajan. Baydur assigns this coin to Trajan based on an “unreadable legend” on the known example. This better quality specimen shows there is in fact no obverse legend. This coin probably should be assigned to the reign of Nerva.

Apollonia Mordiaion (today Uluborlu) was located near Apameia Cibotus at the river Hippophoras. Its title AΠOΛΛΩNIATΩN ΛVKΩN ΘPAKΩN KOΛΩNΩN suggests that in Imperial times, Lykians and Thracians were settled in Apollonia (HN).

Laureate head right / Distyle temple set on four-tiered base; within, cult statue of Augustus standing facing, holding spear, being crowned with wreath by female figure holding cornucopiae; ROMA ET AVG across entablature. VF. While no decisive evidence exists for the location of the mint of the cistophori during the reigns of Vespasian through Trajan, the style, legends, and, in particular, the consistent die axis point to Rome, suggesting that these coins were minted in the capital and then sent to Asia for local use.

The depicted chest is the symbol of Kibyra. Because KIBΩTON (Greek for wooden case or chest) was used in the NT for Noah's Ark, it was suggested that Kibyra was the place where Noah landed after the Flood. Therefore it became a famous site of pilgrimage.

Ti. Julius Ferox served as prconsul of Asia in the last year of Trajan's reign. In that post he would have had to deal with Trajan's Persian invasion, revolts in Judaea and the aftermath of the great Antioch earthquake of 115. Earlier he held the suffect consulship in 100, and from 101-104 served as curator alvei Tiberis et reparum et cloac. urbis, the official responsible for the banks and channels of the Tiber. The post was instituted by Augustus because of the frequent inundations of that river.

Spoerri Butcher (RPC VII.1) recorded only two specimens for Furius Themisonos, as well as a unique specimen of the same type and from the same obverse die but signed by the archon K. Phanias Themisonos. This is perhaps the third known for this variant and the only in private hands. The obverse die used for this issue was also used to strike medallions for Germe in Mysia.
