Thirty-eight examples are recorded in Bodenstedt and forty-five further examples have appeared in auction. There are in fact two types of obverse. This example shows Akateon with an ornate hairstyle or adornment ‘helmet’ – no example so far appears to be better than VF, thus making a definitive description difficult. The most common obverse type has Akateon with close rolls of hair and wearing a stag's horn.

Fourrées of Mytilene electrum coinage are rare as it appears that the penalty of forgery was death. The weight, as well as the broken plating, reveal the coin to be a fourrée.
