Ilion (BC 166) Tetradrachm

ca 160 BC. Tetradrachm (16.34g, 12h). Peotokleidos, "magistrate." Head of Athena right, wearing triple-crested helmet adorned with olive wreath / Statue of Athena Ilias standing right, wearing a kalathos and holding a lance in her right hand and a distaff in her left; to left, monogram above star; ear of grain to right, owl standing right above, ΠΕΩΤΟΚΛΕΙΔΟΥ in exergue. Very rare. Minor marks and traces of corrosion, otherwise, extremely fine. Ex Numismatica Ars Classica 7 (3/1994), lot 236 and 4 (2/1991), lot 138.
