Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #2469

Attaleia (AD 198) AE 17

Caracalla and Geta, ca 198 AD. AE17 (2.81g). Confronted bare headed busts of Caracalla and Geta / Roman she-wolf with twins. Apparently unpublished. Good VF, brown patina. From the Marc Melcher Collection. Ex CNG 54 (6/2000), lot 1109.

The youthful busts, lack of titulature, and Imperial reverse theme suggest this coin was struck very shortly after the elevations of Caracalla and Geta to Augustus and Caesar respectively in January, 198 AD.
