Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #2705

Arykanda (AD 238-244) AE 32 - Gordian III

Gordian III, 238-244 AD. AE32 (17.45g). Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / Radiate deity wearing Phrygian cap riding right, brandishing club. VF, dark green patina. Rare city.

Arycanda only struck coins during the reign of Gordian III, both in his name and in that of his wife, Tranquillina. Of special interest is the fact that this coin shares its obverse die with coins issued for the city of Acalissus.
