Coin ID #3532

Ionia Uncertain (BC 550-500) Horse - EL 1/6

ca 600 BC. EL Hekte - 1/6 Stater (2.48g). Phokaian standard. Figural type. Bridled horse's head right / Irregular incuse square. Unpublished. Good VF. Unique. Ex Numismatic Fine Arts X (9/1981), lot 167.

There are a variety of published horse's head electrum in various denominations from this general period (eg. Weidauer 141-142), but none have the horse's head facing right. In addition, the style of both the horse and the incuse punch are significantly different from the present coin.
