Caracalla, 198-217 AD. AE35 (20.45g). AVT KAI M AVP - CE ANTÎ©ÎÎ•Î™ÎÎŸ - C, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / EÎ I Î“ KÎ› MI - Î˜POV APX A around, [C]APÎ”IANÎ©N B NEÎ©KOPÎ©N in exergue, Caracalla, laureate and in military dress, standing left, holding spear under left arm, and raising wreath in right hand above cult statue of Kore, extended toward him by city-goddess with her right hand; city-goddess stands right, towered and veiled, and holds transverse scepter in left hand. Apparently the second known specimen. Smooth green patina, VF.

The type appears to commemorate some honor granted to the cult of Kore at Smyrna by Caracalla during his sole reign. No coins of Smyrna naming the archon Mithros were known to Head in BMC Lydia, p. civ, but there are two coins of Julia Domna naming this magistrate in SNG von Aulock, 3156 and 8256.
