Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #1508

Isaura (AD 198-217) AE 27 - Caracalla

Caracalla, 198-217 AD. AE27 (18.15g). Laureate and cuirassed bust right, drapery on shoulder, aegis on cuirass / Tetrastyle temple with arched pediment, bust of Hercules on column within. Near EF, green-brown patina. Scarce city.

Levante describes the reverse bust as Septimius Severus, but the prominence of Hercules in the city's pantheon makes him the more likely object of a cult temple.
