Struck from dies of charming, if slightly naive, style. It is interesting that Domna is given pride of place on the left hand side of the obverse facing right, rather than facing left as on the majority of medallions featuring confronted busts of emperor and empress.

Due to the her short reign as Augusta, coins of Annia Faustina are extremely rare. Annia Aurelia Faustina was an Roman noble woman. She was briefly the Empress of Rome and third wife of the Roman emperor Elagabalus in the year 221 AD.

Von Aulock only knew of one example for this type, and of only five coins for Annia Faustina from this mint. This coin appears to be the second known and the only in private hands. The monogram on the countermark can be expanded to TO PKA (= year 121, equivalent to AD 243/4). Howgego records that the countermark appears on issues of Laodicea for Julia Domna, Caracalla, Elagabalus, and Severus Alexander as Caesar.
