Pergamon (BC 450-400) Triobol
|
5th century BC. AR Diobol (1.53g). Laureate head of Apollo right / Bearded head of satrap right, wearing Persian tiara, ΠΕΡΓ to left, within incuse square. EF, but flan chipped on edge from 4:00 to 6:00. Very rare.
The satrapal portrait cannot be positively identified, but stylistically it should be placed under either Eurysthenes or Gongylos, both administrators of the mid-late 5th century BC.
