Mytilene (BC 477-455) EL Hekte - B23

ca 470 BC. EL Hekte (2.51g). Forepart of a bridled horse right, wearing necklace of large beads and with ornamented truncation, ΛΕ below / Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin headdress and with neck ornamented with small squares; all in incuse. Ex Gemini IX, lot 108; Ex Zuzim; Ex Kunker 243, lot 4633 (11/2013). Carr coll.

This obverse is one of the very few produced at Mytilene that bears the initial letters of the island Lesbos. At time of auction only one other known outside Bodenstedt.
